Guest review.

Merlot is exactly as described by the owners. When we arrived it was clean and well maintained and we were delighted by our choice. The pool is excellent and better maintained than some that we have seen. Ann and John made us feel welcome and were happy to advise us but were never intrusive. Aumes is a lovely village, peaceful and friendly with a small shop and play areas. Nearby Pezenas is a beautiful small town and we enjoyed shopping and eating there. There are many places to visit and we went to Montpellier, Sete, Meze, Cap d' Agde and Carcasonne - all very different but each worth visiting. We enjoyed the quality of food at all the restaurants that we visited.

This was the fifth villa that we have rented for a summer holiday and we are all agreed that it was the best. We are a family of four with two teenage children.

Thanks Ann and John for a superb holiday.

Had a super week in Merlot. Visited the beaches at Cap d’Agde, Meze, Montpellier zoo, Dinosaur Park and the historic streets of Pezenas. Recommend taking a boat trip from Meze on “Mansathau” and the Amazonian greenhouse at Montpellier zoo.

Thank you john for being so attentive.

We have really enjoyed our stay in Aumes. The house was lovely to relax in and the pool made cooling off in the heat very easy. We enjoyed BBQ’s in the evening but also eating out in Pezenas, Meze and Sete. Montagnac was lovely for a drink in the evening. The beach at Meze is lovely, and has a little shade. Lunch in the restaurants was a pleasure. Marseillan is worth a visit, the port and restaurants were lovely. We hope to make a return soon.

We have had a lovely stay here in Aumeswe have walked around the pretty little village, and even had a local lady tell us of some of its history. Had a lovely meal in pezenas, spenttwo days on the beach in Cap d’Agde.  We took a trip up to the Cirque de Navacelles which was well worth visiting for the stunning views. We have visited Agde and had a meal on the river. Spent a day walking round Beziers walked around Montagnac with the rest of th time spent relaxing round the pool and socialising with our friends.

Lovely holiday, thank you.

Had fabulous two weeks in France. Enjoyed the holiday home, would love to come back, so central for everything.

Visited several attractions, we recommend the African safari park at Sigean. Also the caves in De Dargilan (roads concentrate the mind for the last 25 miles!). We hires a boat on the Canal du Midi, visited the sea aquarium in Montpellier, excellent.

All attractions good for all ages.

Great weather for a family holiday! Perfect for wandering around the varied towns and villages.

We visited the beach at Portirangnes which was pleasantly not as busy as it could be- perfect with a little toddler. Lovely pizza on the seafront as well. Beziers was great with its cathedral and narrow streets. Canal du Midi with nine locks definitely worth stopping at the bottom to watch fellow explorers navigating the canal. We left reasonably early to take the 1h45 drive to Carcassonne which was well worth it. Not too busy and great places for a bite to eat just inside the old town.

We also visited Sete and Meze with the local trip tp Montagnac and Pezenas aved for our last day to relax.

Thank you for a lovely stay. We really enjoyed the beach at Promenade de Mole, the gentle slope and the multitude of shells made it ideal for a toddler and older children too. The restaurants at Bouzigues are fantastic for seafood and the area has a lovely ambiance.

Pezenas was great with a whole street of “Brocante” shops if you fancy bargaining for some ancient French style. The market on a Saturday is great and the little lanes of the old town are fun to explore.

The house is very well equipped and the pool catches the most sun possible even at this last stage of the year. Thank you Ann and John for the great tips on food and wine. We have had a great time.

Russel and Clare.

Thank you for building such a cute  house. All of it, inside and out is so wonderful. We felt so comfortable from the first moment on. We had hot and cold days this may but Clea (5 years old) was in the pool every day. We enjoyed the nature, the sea, collecting shells and the old historic towns. It’s good that you two came here 30 years ago so that we can have the perfect vacation!

Thank you Ann and John. Nicole, Clea and Jana.

We have had a lovely week in Merlot. Our two grandchildren Ryan (9) and Ruby (4) love the pool and the whole area. We also found great places to visit, having been here last year we returned to Meze, great beach. Saint Guilham le Desert, lovely village + history + little shops. We also found the Dinosaur Park, the Cactus Park which includes yaks, llamas, goats, sheep and ponies. It was quaint and old fashioned and we enjoyed it.

Very good stay, thanks Ann and John. All our  best wishes. Mandy, Paul, Ryan and Ruby.

We also have had a lovely time in your cute lovely home. The beautiful weather, nice people and the wonderful area took care of the rest. Thank you.

We would like to say how much we enjoyed our stay in Merlot. The village of Aumes is very picturesque

and the closeness to the sea was much appreciated. The house is a real “Home from Home “ and had everything we needed. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and generally lazing about. The covered terrace was great for eating outside, looking out over the village we felt part of a real French scene. Thanks Ann and John for guiding us through a few things and making our stay even better.

Couldn't have wished for more and look forward to coming back soon.

Before Aumes we spent 10 years in Pezenas. The first 5 years were spent renovating a large farmhouse  with   three  holiday  apartments  plus our own.

Our son Oliver has always lived here  and has completed his studies in wine production.  Ann has also finished a full time wine course. As you may know, wine production is the major  industry here, in fact just down the road in Montagnac is what was once the largest wine co-operative in Europe.

John has spent his time designing and building our houses, mostly on his own, but with Oliver's help when possible.

So  if  you  do come  and stay with us, and  you want  to  know about wine, building or the area, just ask. Ann and John

Your nearest beach will be Meze. About a 15 minutes drive. Next to Bouzigues.

The Area and things to do……..

Your nearest town is Pezenas, 10 minutes from Aumes where most of the houses date from the 17th century. The Saturday market is a must, it takes over the town centre. Local produce and an impressive organic farmers market. The whole of the old town is original and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live there. There are impressive mansions with courtyards and gardens, narrow cobbled streets with small boutiques which have retained their charm and character. Called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and visits. Aumes is well situated lying between mountains and the sea, (beaches are twenty minutes drive away) and is perfect for walks along lanes and through vineyards. You will find plenty to keep the whole family occupied and happy. It’s all here, you only need to visit the tourist office and you will to find all you need to enjoy your stay. In the house book you will find all sorts of information and ideas. Mediterranean beaches are only 25 minutes away, a day in Spain is 90 minutes, and the Carmargue with the famous black bulls and white horses only 60 minutes !
